A yeast raised donut is produced on a make-up line.  There are various techniques but usually a sheeted dough is cut into ring shapes and then the rings are dropped into a fryer.  Once cooked the donuts are glazed or decorated.

A cake donut usually uses a depositor to deposit cake batter in a circle directly into the oil in a fryer.  The cake donuts are turned once while in the fryer and cooked for approximately 90 seconds.

Other variations of donuts may include filled donuts, twist donuts or powdered donuts.
